The Incident Command System
The Incident Command System (ICS) is a standardized approach to the command, control, and coordination of emergency response. The Team utilizes the ICS structure to manage their response to emergencies and ensure the safety of both team members and the public.
The ICS provides a flexible framework that can be adapted to any incident, regardless of size or complexity. It allows responders from different agencies to work together effectively and efficiently, with clearly defined roles and responsibilities.
When responding to an emergency, SBCSAR deploys an Incident Management Team (IMT) who is responsible for the overall management of the incident. The IMT is made up of highly trained and experienced individuals who are responsible for establishing the command structure, determining the scope of the incident, and allocating resources as necessary.

The IMT uses the ICS to organize their response into manageable functional areas. These functional areas include Operations, Planning, Logistics, and Finance/Administration. Each functional area is headed by a designated Section Chief who is responsible for managing the resources and personnel within that area.
Using the ICS allows SBCSAR to effectively manage emergencies and ensure the safety of both team members and the public. It allows for a coordinated response across multiple agencies, reducing the risk of confusion and miscommunication. By utilizing the ICS structure, SBCSAR can quickly and efficiently respond to emergencies, ensuring the best possible outcome for those in need.
